The Pont du Gard, its ancient arches towering above the waters of the river Gardon, is a spectacular sight, in an area including Remoulins, Nîmes and Alès, perfect for exploring in Bed and Breakfasts. It is the remains of a Roman aqueduct, nearly 50km long, built in the first century AD to carry water from the river Eure at Uzès to supply the city of Nîmes which flourished rapidly under the Romans.
