Bounded by the Rhône, the Durance and the Monts de Vaucluse, the Vaucluseis a region of mountains, plateaux, hills and plains. Winemaking is of great importance here: in turn the Greeks, the Romans and the Popes have played an important role, giving us great wines today with Côtes du Rhônes such as Gigondas, Vacqueras and Chateauneuf du Pape the most famous. And at the end of June, the lavender releases its perfume over whole areas of the Vaucluse: the scent of Provence! Visit the area on foot or bike to best absorb the atmosphere and magnificent vistas. There are plenty of well-marked trails in the Dentelles de Montmirail and Mont Ventoux area and every picturesque village has its Bed and Breakfast. And for those who love steeping themselves in history, visit Avignon with its Pope's Palace and famous bridge or Orange with its Roman amphitheatre. Something for everyone in the Vaucluse!
