But everywhere curiosities are both underfoot and overhead: Boulogne-sur-Mer, whose riches have allowed the town to be awarded a much sought-after 'Ville d'Art et d'Histoire' title, possesses many splendid historical edifices; Montreuil-sur-Mer opens the doors to all its monuments: ramparts, the citadel, the abbey; Béthune, built on a small promontory, marks the end of the Artois hills in the south; Saint-Omer, also a 'Ville d'Art et d'Histoire' is dominated by its imposing gothic cathedral and proud of its Sandelin museum.
