The chateau Chanzé, on the banks of the Layon, is situated 15 miles to the south of Angers, in the heart of the Loire Valley. Renovated in authentic renaissance style with old stone, wood, terracotta tiles and exposed beams and set in large grounds with heated swimming pool (May to October), sauna and jacuzzi. Overlooking the vineyards, the air-conditioned rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated. The buffet breakfast is served in the converted barn or beside the pool. At dinner, 'poisson au beurre blanc' (fish in rich butter sauce), a regional dish, is one of the specialties of the house. Attentive yet discreet welcome.
