The northern Ardèche is worth a stopover or a week-end break in Bed and Breakfasts in and around Annonay. Famous for the hot-air balloon, invented by the Montgolfière brothers, it's an ideal place from which to visit the magnificent Rhône Valley and the Grand Felletin hiking trail in Auvergne, a superb trek through marvellous scenery, as well as many other hiking trails here in the 'Ardèche Verte', with its rolling hills, valleys and forests. The Monts du Vivarais and the Pilat are within easy reach. And for a change, visit the Safari park at Peaugres, a great hit with young and old!
